Madagascar’s capital, Antananarivo, has a population of 2.1 million people. It has an infrastructure built to support only 125 thousand. As the pressures of overpopulation mount, Antananarivo: A capital at crossroads explores the implications of government plans for a “Grand Tana”.

Madagascar, along with a number of other African nations, celebrated its 50th year of independence in 2010. Journalists Eléonore de Bonneval and Laura Heighton-Ginns spent a month in Madagascar investigating living conditions in the country today. They subsequently produced audio slideshow Antananarivo: A capital at crossroads, screened at Westbourne Studios on 16 September 2010.

Eleonore and Laura ran the Marathon de Paris on 11 April 2010 to raise funds for Madagascar charity Azafady (charity no. 1079121). They made a second audio slideshow about Azafady’s work, below.
